Parent Coaching

Parenting a child with intense emotions can be overwhelming. You want to support them, but it’s hard to know what actually helps—and what might make things worse.

You don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. I’m here to help.

SPACE: Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions

12–14 Session | 50-Minute Parent Sessions

SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) is a parent-based treatment program designed specifically for children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, OCD, and related challenges.

Developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center, SPACE has been tested in rigorous randomized controlled clinical trials and proven effective in helping children feel less anxious and function better—without requiring the child to attend therapy.

Who is SPACE for?

SPACE is designed to support children and adolescents who are experiencing anxiety disorders or obsessive-compulsive disorder. While the child or adolescent is the focus of the treatment, they do not need to attend the sessions—parents participate on their behalf. Through this approach, meaningful change happens at home, often leading to reduced anxiety and improved daily functioning for the child.

SPACE has been shown to be effective in addressing a wide range of anxiety-related concerns, including:

  • Separation Anxiety

  • Social Anxiety

  • Generalized Anxiety

  • Specific Fears and Phobias

  • Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia

  • Selective Mutism

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

What Does SPACE Treatment Involve?

In SPACE, parents and caregivers are the ones who attend sessions—not the child. While your child or adolescent is the focus of the treatment, they do not need to be present for the process to be effective.

Throughout the program, you’ll learn evidence-based strategies to help your child manage and overcome anxiety, OCD, and related challenges. The focus is not on getting your child to change their behavior—instead, it's about empowering you to shift your own responses in ways that create meaningful change at home.

The two core skills parents develop in SPACE treatment are:

  • Responding with supportive presence when your child is anxious or distressed

  • Reducing accommodations—the well-meaning actions you may be taking that unintentionally reinforce anxiety

These changes, while subtle, can have a powerful impact on your child’s ability to feel more confident, independent, and emotionally secure.
